Refundable Deposit vs Prepay: Which Rental Plan Saves More

By Turnkey Living Team ยท

When you rent with Turnkey Living, you get to choose how you pay - month by month with a refundable deposit, or upfront for your whole tenure. Both work, but they suit different situations. Here's exactly how each one works, so you can pick what actually saves you more.

Option 1: Monthly, with a refundable deposit

If you choose to pay month by month, a security deposit applies โ€” this is refundable, and every product page shows the exact deposit amount before you book. For example, a mattress may carry a โ‚น1,000 refundable deposit, while a smaller item like a study chair might only need โ‚น500.

This route makes sense if you'd rather keep your monthly cash flow lower and spread the cost out, rather than paying a lump sum at the start.

Option 2: Prepay the whole tenure

Choose to pay for your entire rental tenure upfront, and two things happen:

  1. The refundable deposit is waived entirely โ€” you don't pay it at all.

  2. You get a further discount off the rent, on top of the tenure-length rate you're already paying.

This means prepaying isn't just about convenience โ€” it directly reduces your total cost compared to paying monthly for the same tenure.

Which one actually saves more?

If you have the funds available upfront and you're confident about your rental duration, prepaying works out cheaper overall โ€” you skip the deposit and get an additional discount. If you'd rather not commit a large amount at once, paying monthly with a refundable deposit is the safer, more flexible route โ€” you still get the deposit back when you return the product.

One more thing that affects your total cost: tenure length

Regardless of which payment option you choose, longer tenures bring the effective monthly rate down. Renting for 6 or 12 months typically costs less per month than a 3-month plan on the same product โ€” and delivery itself is free on 6- and 12-month plans, while 3-month plans carry a small flat delivery charge shown at checkout.

How to decide

  • Prepay if: you can pay the full tenure amount upfront and want the lowest possible total cost.

  • Pay monthly if: you'd rather spread payments out and are comfortable with the refundable deposit for now.

Both options are available on every product page โ€” browse the collection and compare the monthly vs. prepay pricing before you book, so you can pick whichever plan fits your budget best.
